Dewey Decimal Classification
This Book has been written keeping in view the students of B. Lib & I.Sc./M.Lib.I.Sc. and all LIS professionals working in di?erent libraries. It is written in a very simple manner, so that the concept can be clear. The DDC is spread over in three volumes viz ; V.1 Introduction Tables V.2 Schedule V. 3 Relative Index and the class number formation is the use of these three volumes. The author has tried to give explanation of Schedules and Intro-duction tables at di?erent places where it is considered necessary. The Evolution of Dewey Decimal Classi?cation starts from 1876 when it was introduced to the world of libraries. Now it has completed a remark-able journey from 1876- 2011. The DDC 19thedition (1979 ) has been used in this practical primer , that is much in use. This Classi?cation system is grounded in simplicity and use of numerals in a hierarchical manner gives a lot of expansion and ?exibility.
In the era of digitation DDC continue to prove its relevance and importance.It is widely used scheme of classi?cation. It is translated into more than 30 languages of the world. The main languages are Arabic Chinese, French,Greek, Italian, Korean, Russian, Spanish , German etc. It has been using by more than 200.000 libraries of 135 Countries of the world. I am really greatfull to publisher who published the book in very short time span. I have written this book with a lot of hard work and full dedication to make it errorless if any error occurs, I apologize in advance.
